Hunting guidelines

Any individual interested in hunting on an SBLC nature preserve must fill out the registration form on this page. Due to the overall size of each nature preserve, its proximity to neighboring parcels, residences, and other structures, and the presence of maintained trails and regular use by visitors for other outdoor activities, hunting is allowed with restrictions on certain properties and prohibited altogether on others. Trapping will not be permitted on any property.

Please see the table for specific guidance on what type of equipment is permitted on each property.

Staff will monitor for hunting activity on all of the Conservancy’s preserves and will maintain communication with local conservation officers to ensure they are aware of which properties hunting is allowed on and where it is prohibited. These guidelines will be paired with the Conservancy’s Policy On Stands And Blinds At SBLC Nature Preserves, readopted on July 19, 2023 as well as all state hunting seasons and regulations enacted by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. For a copy of the Policy On Stands And Blinds At SBLC Nature Preserves, please contact the Conservancy.

These regulations will be reviewed annually and may be amended to best suit the ecological and recreational objectives of each respective property.
