Tree Donation Program

Remember or celebrate someone in your life by planting a tree! A tree is a beautiful, long-lasting tribute to honor someone's memory, give a gift to a special person, or congratulate someone on a job well done. Your donation to the Taking Root project demonstrates your care and commitment to the environment and is truly appreciated by your recipient or family.

Trees may be planted in City of Bay City Parks, Saginaw County Parks, and the SBLC Nature Preserves.  When you place your order, you will be able to pick a location and a tree type based on availability.  

  • Trees must be purchased through the SBLC and can be done so at any time throughout the year. However, the trees will only be planted in the spring and fall of each calendar year, based on local planting seasons.  

  • As the purchaser of a tree, you may choose the park or nature preserve based on available planting locations, however the exact location of the tree will be determined by the SBLC. 

  • A permanent record of all trees will be kept at the SBLC.  Once the planting is completed, you will receive a certificate suitable for framing, including the honoree name, donor name, occasion, date, the location of the tree, tree species and number of trees you have helped plant.

  • The total cost of a tree is $500, which includes the purchase and installation of a tree, donor plaque, and a 1-year warranty. $250 of your purchase can be a taxable donation.

  • The trees will be at minimum 2 inches DBH. Tree species will be selected by staff to best fit the location and to encourage a diverse and healthy tree canopy.

  • The Saginaw Basin Land Conservancy cannot accept trees purchased outside of the framework listed. 

  • The Saginaw Basin Land Conservancy, City of Bay City, including the Parks Division, are not responsible for damage to the tree as a result of weather or vandalism. 

  • The Saginaw Basin Land Conservancy does not guarantee the lifespan of a tree donation past the 1-year warranty period. 

  • The SBLC will remove diseased and non-living trees at their discretion.
